NAPLAN Numeracy: Topics, Skills and How to Improve

NAPLAN numeracy tests how well students apply mathematics to solve problems, not just whether they can do calculations. Questions span several strands and, from Year 7, split into calculator and non-calculator sections.

The strands tested

• Number and algebra — place value, operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, patterns.
• Measurement and geometry — length, area, volume, time, angles, shapes and location.
