When Is NAPLAN? Test Timing for Years 3, 5, 7 & 9
4 min read
NAPLAN is held once a year, in March. Rather than a single day, there is a test window of around two weeks, and schools schedule their sessions within it — so the exact day varies from school to school.
How the window works
All four year levels (3, 5, 7 and 9) sit the tests during the same national window. Schools spread the four tests across several days, with provision for catch-up sessions for students who are absent.
Finding your child's exact dates
For the precise window each year, check the official NAP website (nap.edu.au). For your child's specific days, ask their school — it sets the local timetable.
What this means for preparation
A March test means the most effective time to start gentle, regular practice is the preceding term. See how to prepare for NAPLAN for a simple plan.
